Understand Your Needs

transformer supplierDefine your requirements before you search for a transformer supplier. Knowing your needs will save you a lot of time and further lead you to the right supplier.

1. Identify the Type of Transformer Needed

Transformers fall into four categories: step-up, step-down, isolation, and autotransformers. Depending on the need of the application, each has a different use.

For instance, in transmission through voltage, increasing its value necessitates the application of a step up transformer. Meanwhile, an industrial application requires the use of a step down transformer when the voltage must be brought down.

2. Determine the Specifications

Think about your needs for your project. The following key considerations are:

  • Voltage Ratings: Decide the rating of input and output voltages.
  • Power Rating: The rated capacity in the form of kilovolt-amperes and megavolt-amperes.
  • Cooling Method: Choose to have an air-cooled or oil-cooled transformer.
  • Application: Consider the environment, then the application, regarding where the transformer is going to be deployed-industrial, commercial, or residential.

Knowing specifically what you require, you can communicate better with likely suppliers and condense your search.

Research Potential Suppliers

Knowing the needs to be met will be useful for finding sources.

1. Utilize Internet Resources

Use the Internet to look up the manufacturers of the power transformers. Some websites offer free pages for use as a directory of industries, exhibition of trade, and web-based markets. Select companies with a good reputation and portfolio of lists.

2. Obtain Referrals

Ask for referral sources of colleagues or industry contacts. Referrals by word-of-mouth help find reliable suppliers whom other people have successfully worked with.
